Description:
A romantic original
pastel drawing by Halfred Tygesen of ships sailing away from the dock under
a blue sky. The golden light reflected off the ships could be early
evening or early morning. Nicely framed behind glass in a gold finished
wood frame. A write up on the back describes the artist and his philosophy.
Tygesen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark about 1890, and arrived in Canada
c1927.
Tygesen travelled
and exhibited his work all across Canada, and was best known for his landscapes
in oil and pastel. He appears to have been a popular artist with the public
as his work is still found in numerous private collections, and is the
subject of many public inquiries.
Tygesen died in
Mimico (Ont.) December 23rd, 1951 at the age of 61 (Toronto Daily Star
28 Dec 1951). His son, also named Halfred, ran the Tygesen Galleries in
Toronto during the 1960's.
