African Triple Face Lega Mask DR Congo
A superb triple face carved wooden mask from Sud-Kivu Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. These ceremonial masks were used by Lega men to rise through the five levels of Bwami associated with lifelong learning and deeds.

The patina is wonderful, created by applying clay to the wood. The simplicity of the lines bring to mind much of European modern art, the masters of which borrowed heavily from African art.

In good pre-owned condition.

9.75" widest x 16.5" high x 5.25" deep.
