Mid-Century Modern Bull Fight Painting by Edgar A. Stareck
This original mid-century modernist mixed media painting by Edgar A. Stareck depicts a matador confronting his bull. The central blood red cape and the black bull are set against pale yellow and deep earth colours, creating a dramatic and colourful moment. Two picadors on horseback are in the middle and far distance and the whole is enclosed in a lively movement of geometric shapes.  The painting is acrylic, paper, and rough jute on canvas.

Edgar Stareck (1917-1987) attended the University of Kansas, and in the mid 1940s he moved to New York City where he studied at the Art Students League. His work was exhibited in many New York galleries and ranged from modernist cityscapes to animals and abstracts.
